150th Anniversary Logo Design Contest

The Scottdale HIstorical Society and the Sesquicentennial Committee are looking for individuals and teams who want to leave their mark in Scottdale's history by designing the logo for the 150th Anniversary!

 

Entries must be received by Friday, April 14, 2023!  Read through the Contest Rules below and submit your entry along with the official Entry Form.

Eligibility

  • Participants must reside within the Southmoreland School District or have direct ties to the community.
  • By entering, participants agree to be bound by the contest rules. Violating any rule or not following instructions may eliminate participants’ eligibility.
  • Individuals or teams may submit no more than two entries (a separate entry form must accompany each submission).

Intellectual Property

  • Entrants affirm their submissions are their own original work, have not been copied from others or from previous designs, including their own, and do not violate the intellectual property rights of any other person or entity.
  • By submitting your design, you acknowledge and agree that the design will be the sole property of the Scottdale Historical Society and may be used for any purposes, including, but not limited to, display on websites, business cards, letterhead, posters, merchandise, and other visual collateral.
  • Scottdale Historical Society shall have the right to adapt, edit, modify, or otherwise use the winning submission in part or in its entirety in whatever manner it deems appropriate.
  • All entries will become property of the Scottdale Historical Society.  By submitting an entry, each entrant agrees that any and all intellectual property rights in the logo design are deemed assigned to the Scottdale Historical Society and the Scottdale 150th Anniversary committee.
  • If the winner is determined to have violated any rules, he/she will be required to forfeit or return the prize, even if the determination is made after the prize has been awarded.

Logo Design Guidelines and Criteria

  • The purpose of this contest is to design a logo to be used for marketing and merchandise as we celebrate Scottdale’s 150th Anniversary.
  • Designs cannot include profanity or otherwise obscene content.
  • The logo must incorporate “150th Anniversary” into the design.
  • The Scottdale Historical Society reserves the right to modify the winning logo to better fit the needs of the 150th Anniversary.
  • Logo should be created in a digital format or can be easily converted into digital file.
    • If you are selected as a winner, you MUST be able to provide a high resolution vector file (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or InDesign) so that it is adaptable to electronic and print media, to reproduction on small and large surfaces and to use in color or in greyscale.
  • Entries may be submitted with completed entry form by email to ScottdaleLogoContest@gmail.com or at the Scottdale Library for hard-copy entries.
  • All entries must be submitted no later than midnight, Friday, April 14, 2023

Determination of Winner and Prize

A selection committee comprised of the Scottdale Historical Society and its 150th Anniversary Committee will evaluate all final entries based on the following criteria (though other criteria may be considered).

 

Relevance – Does the entry align with the theme and goals of the Scottdale Historical Society and the 150th Anniversary Committee?

 

Originality – Does the composition exhibit original design, creativity and imagination?

 

Aesthetic Quality – Does the submission command attention? Does it display visual balance and color coordination?  Do all of the elements work together to create a unified and appealing design?

  • 1st prize winner will be awarded $150.
  • 2nd place will be awarded $50
  • 3rd place will be awarded $25
  • Once all entries have been submitted, we will hold a public vote, location and date TBD, to choose up to the top 10.
  • The Scottdale Historical Society will then vote on the top winners and the decisions of the Selection Committee with be final.
  • If the winning entries were produced by a team/group, only one prize will be awarded and divided equally among the team.
  • The Selection Committee reserves the right not to select a winner, if in its sole discretion no suitable entries are received.

  • Scottdale Historical Society is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, incomplete, illegible, or otherwise unusable entries, including entries that are lost or unusable due to computer, internet, or electronic problems.
  • Scottdale Historical Society reserves the right to cancel or modify the Contest and award the prize by alternate means if fraud or technical failure is determined at any time, including after the submission window has closed.
  • Contest organizers are not liable, for the purpose of winner and prize notification and delivery, in the event the contest winner has provided incorrect, outdated, or otherwise invalid contact information.
