Mr. Robert Percy conducted interviews of Scottdale, and surrounding area, Veterans of World War II through the 1970s and into the 2000s. These recorded interviews are being digitized by the Scottdale Historical Society so we can share them with our community and those interested in learning more about World War II.
Mr. Percy also has a book, "Profiles of Service and Sacrifice" that is available at the Scottdale Library that pays tribute to 20 local veterans of World War II.
"The tributes to veterans, included within, should evoke a sense of appreciation throughout our civilian popularion in recognition of the unselfish sacrifices made by each of our local military personnel. Their contributions where indispensable to the prosecution and successful conclusion of World War II. A special recognition is reserved for those who did not survive wartime combat assignments. Some remain in far flung cemeteries, while others were brough home to thier final resting place. Whatever the choice, and wherever they rese, they are not forgotten." - Dedication from "Profiles of Service and Sacrifice."
As the Scottdale Historical Society continues to process all of the audio recordings from Mr. Percy, we are also asking for photos of our towns World War II Veterans to be shared with us by emailing us. We are also looking for additional photos of the following veterans to be included with upcoming interview releases.
