The Scottdale Historical Society participated in the United Way Day of Caring on Friday, September 9, 2016, along with a group of volunteers from West Penn Power. Together the 30+ volunteers from the Historical Society and West Penn Power will took on several projects at the historic Loucks Homestead from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The group of volunteers worked on: painting the exterior trim of the historic Loucks House, summer kitchen and spring house, landscaping around the property and cleaning.
All of the Volunteers from the West Penn Power Pleasant Valley Service Center and community volunteers, you all did an AMAZING JOB!
The amount of work that was done with cleaning debris from under the porch and Spring House to the removal of overgrown trees, shrubs and weeds all around the Loucks House, and the fresh coats of paint on the Spring House porch and side... There are no no words.
To our friends at Court Yard Catering & Specialties, JJ's Pizza, and Fox's Scottdale. Your food donations for lunch were outstanding. We all had full bellies and were refueled after a busy morning.
Painting and Landscaping supplies were also provided by PPG Paints, Lowe's Home Improvement, Busy Beaver - Home Improvement Centers in Mt. Pleasant and other private donors.
We would also like to thank Scottdale's Mayor Chuck King and Borough Manager, Angelo Pallone for their support with the Street Department in providing their services to haul away large debris from the property.
This truly was a community effort and we can't wait to see how things progress at the Historic Loucks Homestead.
Thank you to everyone!
Historical Society meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month and start at 6:30 p.m. If you have interest in attending, please email us.
