Scottdale's Baseball History

The history of baseball in the United States can be traced to the 18th century, when amateurs played a baseball-like game by their own informal rules using improvised equipment. The popularity of the sport inspired the semipro national baseball clubs in the 1860s. More>>

Scottdale Volunteer Fire Department

In 1885 Scottdale experienced several large fires. The Borough Council worked to form a fire department with little success. In 1886 the borough turned the effort over to local citizens, forming the Scottdale Fire Department. More>>

Herbert Morrison

"Oh the humanity!" May 6, 2017 marks the 80th anniversary of the Hindenburg disaster.  The German passenger airship, LZ 129 Hindenburg, caught fire and was destroyed during it attempt to dock with is mooring mast at the Naval Air Station Lakehurst in Manchester Township, New Jersey. More>>

Marie May was born in Scottdale, Pennsylvania, on April 12, 1901.  She was next to the youngest of four children. She had two brothers and a sister. She attended schools in Scottdale and Mill Run, Pennsylvania. More>>

Wigwam Club

These photos show the Scottdale Wigwam Club. The  group is gathered in front of a cabin, and the sign on the roof lists Scottdale  Wigwam.  During the early 20th century,  many churches and organizations would have a members camp and meet for retreats.   More>>
