The sign on the corner identifies the business as the Scottdale Motor Garage. The Automobile garage was located on the corner of North Hickory and Brook.
The various automobiles are from the 1920's and seem to be what we would consider the used car lot today. The car near center has the brass lanterns (head lights) that required manual lighting by a match while others autos on display had the new fangled battery operated lanterns.
The Scottdale Phone Directory from 1927-8 lists the Scottdale Motor Garage on this sight. A year later, the 1929 Board of Trade book lists this property as the H.V. Overholt Motor Co. and was a Buick Dealership.
Buick is currently the oldest active North American automotive make, and among the oldest automobile brands in the world. It originated as the Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company in 1899, an independent internal combustion engine and motor-car manufacturer, and was later incorporated as the Buick Motor Company on May 19, 1903, by Scottish born David Dunbar Buick in Detroit, Michigan.
