Geocache Treasure Hunt
Scottdale celebrates its 140th anniversary this year, and this geocache, being held on Sunday, August 17 during Scottdale's Picnic in the Park, is designed to take you to three landmarks that are all part of this history of our town. This is a FREE event perfect for individuals and families looking for an adventure and to learn more about Scottdale's 140 year history. You can drive or walk to all of these locations and you should be able to complete all three tasks in approximately one hour. At the completion of the third cache you will receive your prize.
The first clue will be available online here, Facebook or at the Loucks House located at 527 North Chestnut Street in Scottdale on Sunday morning. Clues will be in their hiding places by 11 a.m. and geocache will end at 7 p.m.
Geocache Treasure Hunt Starting Clue
Settlers to the area in the 1770’s called this area Fountain Mills and 100 years later local authorities renamed the town Scottdale to honor Thomas Alexander Scott. Scott was President of this organization that brought a branch line to the area in 1873. Make tracks to this destination and search the apron for your next clue. Items of Note
GPS Coordinates will be available on each clue with an approximate location of the next. While a GPS unit is not required it may be helpful. Clues will be stored in a container that will be hidden under rocks, shrubs, in trees, etc. Clues will not be buried or placed in hard to reach areas. Once you find a clue, please place the box back where you found it so others may enjoy this activity. Unlike a typical geocache, there will not be a log book at each location, only the final stop where you will receive your prize. You are not required to leave any trinkets behind.
