The Scottdale Historical Society, in conjunction with Robert Levin (Levin Furniture), are pleased to announce the recipient of the 2018 Jane A. Yuhouse Memorial Scholarship to graduating Southmoreland High School senior Kathy Bash of Mt. Pleasant, PA.  Ms. Bash received a $1000 scholarship during the Class Day festivities at Southmoreland High School on Friday, May 25, 2018.

The Jane A. Yuhouse Memorial Scholarship is available to a graduating Southmoreland High School Senior who has intentions in majoring in Culinary Arts, Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences or Health and Human Service fields, has a proven academic record and volunteers their time with community organizations.

Ms. Bash’s academic and extracurricular successes include being a graduate of the Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week, involvement in the Southmoreland music programs, Art Council, Reading Buddies, Pennsylvania 4-H including serving as secretary for the 4 Hooves and Heart Beat Goat Club and president of the 4-H Fayette County Teen County Council.  Kathy is involved with community events and programs such as Reading Buddies, volunteering at the Scottdale Winter Festival and with the food bank and food drives as well as making a blanket for Children’s Hospital.  Kathy’s academic achievements, involvement in community organizations and career goals after graduation also make her an exceptional candidate to receive the 2018 Jane A. Yuhouse Memorial Scholarship.

Ms. Bash plans to attend Slippery Rock University to pursue a degree in History with a goal to become an Archivist so that she can preserve historic items and information for future generations.
