The Scottdale Historical Society is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2019 Jane A. Yuhouse Memorial Scholarship to graduating Southmoreland High School senior Erin Polakovsky of Ruffsdale, PA.  Erin received a $1000 scholarship during the Class Day festivities at Southmoreland High School on Tuesday, June 4, 2019.

The Jane A. Yuhouse Memorial Scholarship is available to a graduating Southmoreland High School Senior who has intentions in majoring in Culinary Arts, Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences or Health and Human Service fields, has a proven academic record and volunteers their time with community organizations.

Ms. Polakovsky’s academic and extracurricular successes include being a member of the National Honor Society, French National Honor Society, ALPHA, Highlander Honors Choir, Youth Education Association, the Ligonier Fencing Club, and others.    Erin is involved with community events and programs, such as being a junior coach at the Ligonier Fencing Club, Reading Buddies, Scottdale Light Up Night, volunteering with the Nicholson Cancer Fund and more.  Her academic achievements, involvement in community organizations and career goals after graduation make Erin an exceptional candidate to receive the 2019 Jane A. Yuhouse Memorial Scholarship.

Ms. Polakovsky plans to attend California University of Pennsylvania to pursue a degree in Psychology with a goal to become a therapist and do what she loves most, help people.

The Jane A. Yuhouse Memorial Scholarship was established in 2014 by the Scottdale Historical Society thanks to the support of Robert Levin (Levin Furniture), to honor a loving wife, mother and friend who had a passion for baking, traveling and supporting non-profit organizations like the Scottdale Historical Society.
